The 5 Elements

The Ancient Chinese Metaphysics classifies all things in the universe under 5 Elements, Metal (金）, Wood (木）, Water (水）, Fire (火） and Earth(土). This 5 Element theory is to help us understand the Universal order of our world.

It does not mean that things are made of one of these 5 elements, but rather, has the nature of a particular element, based on its properties and characteristics. The 5 elements are dynamic, they are energies in constant motion. They interact in 2 fundamental ways, either generation or restraint.

We interact with each other and our environment in more ways than we are aware of and the inter-connected relationships can be explained through the 5 Elements Theory. Based on our Eight Characters ( 八字), all of us are strong in certain elements while lacking in others. Through our activities and interactions, we either achieve a balance or further tilt the imbalance.

Jobs and the industry of trade also have their own elements based on their distinct characteristics. You can excel in some and struggle in another, depending on whether the job nature has a generation or restraint relationship with you. Here is a guide to which element group they belong to.

Metal

Hardware equipment, factory machinery, automobiles, transportation, finance, electrical appliances, engineering, mining, etc.

Lawyer, judge, management, manufacturing, peripheral manufacturing, automotive, securities investment, financial and insurance industry.

Integrated circuit testing, optical fiber cable industry, integrated circuit manufacturing, integrated circuit packaging, wire and cable and hardware businesses.

Buyers and sellers of crude iron or metal tools, materials and jewellery.
Wood

Timber, furniture, design, literature, teachers, writers, educational circles, bookstores and publishing houses.

Medical, religions, clothes, traditional Chinese medicine, plant-based vegetarian foods.
Water

Field duties, mobile businesses, ice making, refrigeration, travel, tourism, athletes, journalists, hostels, etc.

Import and export trade, international business operations, automobile maintenance, management consulting industry, sales, department stores, supermarkets.

Transportation, fisheries, aquariums, aviation, commodity trading, mass communication, politics.

Drifting nature, rush nature, fluidity quality, acoustic properties, cleaning properties, rely on the sea for livelihood.

Fire
